'Flying Solo' guide for female travelers

If you're female and you're traveling by yourself, what's the best place to take a vacation?

Well, that depends on what your idea of a good time is. Do you like to party, or would you rather spend your time at a museum? How do you feel about dining alone versus hanging out with a bunch of people you just met? Do you see yourself meeting Mr. Right on your trip, or do you value your solitude?

A new book called "Fly Solo: The 50 Best Places on Earth for a Girl to Travel Alone" by Teresa Rodriguez Williamson (Perigee/Penguin, $15.95), can help you make the right choice.

The book includes a quiz to help you figure out where you might have the most fun with the least stress. Depending on the preferences you express, you might head to Thailand, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Prague or Budapest if you're into cultural attractions, whereas the outdoor adventurer is going to want to head to Machu Picchu, or Moab, Utah, or perhaps Belize, Bhutan or Queenstown, New Zealand. If you're more the dancing, drinking and cafe-hopping type, consider Rio, San Francisco, Berlin, Dublin or Stockholm.

Other aspects of the book include advice on how to do Europe on the cheap, where to take a solo Valentine's Day getaway and find the hottest guys in the world, and U.S. cities that are great for visiting alone.
