'Fans' kick-off after derby match.


POLICE made five arrests after fighting broke-out between Wrexham and Chester supporters after yesterday's derby match.

The Blue Square Premier league game kicked-off at 12pm and finished 0-0. After the final whistle, trouble spilled out onto the streets, according to according to

 North Wales Police North Wales Police (Welsh: Heddlu Gogledd Cymru) is the Home Office police force responsible for policing North Wales. The headquarters are in Colwyn Bay, with divisional headquarters in St Asaph, Caernarfon and Wrexham.  and Wrexham fans posting on the Red Passion website.

A police spokeswoman said: "Five arrests were made as a result of fighting after the match and we anticipate we will make more arrests in the coming days. Two groups of fans were intent on causing trouble after the game."

She added: "There were over 150 specifically trained officers from North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  and Cheshire at the match.

"They intervened when trouble occurred. Nobody was injured."

The main incidents took place on Mold Road, where dozens of officers were patrolling wearing riot gear.

Last night, fan reaction to policing on the day was mixed.

Some praised cops for quelling incidents quickly, while others criticised them for their approach.

The Red Passion site was inundated with posts on its message board from angry supporters fed-up of rioting fans on both sides.

One read: "I felt for the police operating on the day, as they are decent hard working folk, who are under orders - but whoever liaised the operation got it badly wrong. Incidents like this mean that we will stay at silly kick off times while the guilty go away unpunished unpunished
