'Family Man' and the Wailers still at it three decades later.

When it comes to reggae, the Wailers have an impressive history.

The group began life as a vocal trio featuring reggae icons Bob Marley, Peter Tosh Peter Tosh (October 19, 1944 – September 11, 1987[1]) was the guitarist in the original Wailing Wailers, a pioneer reggae musician, and a trailblazer for the Rastafari movement.  and Bunny Wailer. In the early '70s, the Wailers teamed up with the Upsetters, featuring Aston "Family Man" Barrett and his brother, Carlton Barrett.

As the two groups morphed into Bob Marley and the Wailers, "Family Man" kept a steady beat, anchoring the group's legendary rhythm section Noun 1. rhythm section - the section of a band or orchestra that plays percussion instruments

Today, Barrett still keeps the beat. He and the Wailers will play classic and new reggae tracks on Wednesday at the McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $21 in advance, available through TicketsWest or online at www.mcdonaldtheatre.com.

Day-of-show admission will be $23.

Broadway.

Suburban Slim

Blues singer and guitar slinger Suburban Slim called Eugene home for 16 years before he moved up north to the big city.

It's back to the old stomping grounds today when Slim and his band take the stage at Mac's at the Vet's Club, 1626 Willamette St. Showtime is 9:30 p.m., and the cover is $4.

Michelle Malone Michelle Malone is an American roots rock and blues singer/songwriter and accomplished guitarist. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia by her mother and grandmother, both professional singers.  

Today, Sam Bond's Garage

There are some music writers who would take notice of a singer who earned "4 out of 5' Bunnies from Playboy maga- zine Pronounced "zeen." See Webzine and e-zine. .

This music writer? I'll pay more attention to what Harp Magazine has to say about a CD from Michelle Malone: `2003's hands-down best Americana release from a female singer-songwriter."

OK, call us a tad impressed. Check out Malone's `soulful vocals' and "raucous and jubilant" style in person today at Sam Bond's Garage, 407 Blair Blvd.

Hillstomp will open the show, which begins at 9:30 p.m. The cover is $5.

Chuck Brodsky

Saturday, Luna

Chuck Brodsky's satirical songs have been a fixture on Dr. Demento's radio show.

Brodsky will team up with Eugene's own Brian Cutean for a night of deep thoughts and laughs on Saturday at Luna. Showtime is 8 p.m., and the cover will be $10.

Kristin Chandler

Saturday, Sam Bond's Garage

Kristin Chandler - who sings original songs in a style blending soul, funk, jazz and R&B - will celebrate the release of her first album at Sam Bond's Garage on Saturday.

Backed by her husband and songwriter, Michael Zimmerman, and the rhythm section of Scott Perey, Rusty James Morris There have been several people named James Morris:
  • James Morris (North Dakota) (1893–1980), Justice of the Supreme Court of North Dakota (1935–1964), a trial judge for the IG Farben Trial
 and Jeremy Gibons, Chandler will let loose the songs from the CD, "bird."

The Elizabeth Cable Band will join the bill as special guests. Showtime is 9 p.m., and the cover will be $5.

The WOW Hall will be rockin' on Saturday night.

and Tiny Tavern

Seattle singer-songwriter Charlotte Thistle will give two Eugene neighborhoods a taste of her music on Saturday.

She'll set up shop at 4:30 p.m. at Tsunami Books, 2585 Willamette St., in south Eugene. Later, she'll head to the Whiteaker for an 8 p.m. show at the Tiny Tavern, 394 Blair Blvd.

Both shows are free.

Time Out New York calls the Ike Reilly Assassination "criminally under-recognized."

Pat Travers Band

For three decades, Pat Travers has put his signature guitar licks to some smokin' bluesy rock.

Shouldn't be much different when Travers and his trio-mates Eric "Freight Train" Frates (drums) and Rick Navarro (bass) head to Taboo in downtown Eugene on Sunday.

Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, available at Taboo, 23 W. Sixth Ave., CD World, House of Records or any TicketsWest outlet.

Day of show, the admission will be $12.

Pigeon John

Tuesday, Indigo District

Pigeon John is rumored to be a boundlessly entertaining performer who blends hip-hop and pop with ease.

He'll put those skills to the test when he performs Tuesday at Indigo District, 1290 Oak St. Opening the show will be One Block Radius One Block Radius is an alternative hip hop group made up of Marty James (vocals, raps, production), MDA (vocals, turntables), and emcee Z-Man (a Hieroglyphics associated rapper).  and Louis Logic.

The music begins at 10 p.m. The cover is $6.

Supersuckers

Wednesday, WOW Hall

Eddie Spaghetti and the boys from Supersuckers will return to Eugene on Wednesday for a show at the WOW Hall.

The Sawyer Family will open. Showtime is 9 p.m., and tickets are $10 at the door.

Portland's Nuborn Tribe, a seven-piece roots-reggae outfit, will celebrate the Monday birthday of reggae icon Bob Marley three days late with a concert Thursday at the WOW Hall.

Showtime is 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance, available at the WOW Hall; at the door, it'll cost ya a 10 spot to get in.
