'FANTASTICKS' GETS TWO-WEEKEND EXTENSION AT NEWHALL PLAYHOUSE.Byline: Carol Rock Staff Writer NEWHALL - The Repertory East Playhouse will extend its musical ``The Fantasticks'' two more weekends to accommodate record ticket sales. ``We've had quite a few sold-out shows,'' said Craig Duswalt, Producing Artistic Director of the REP. ``And the rest of them have been about three-quarters full.'' This is the first extension for the theater, an 81-seat, Equity-waiver venue in the popular Old Newhall Arts District. The show opened March 11 and will continue to run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through May 1. The show is suitable for people age 13 and over. ``The Fantasticks,'' written by Tom Jones with music composed by Harvey Schmidt, is based on the play ``Les Romanesques'' by Edmond Rostand. It's the story of a boy, a girl and their fathers, who plot to get them together by keeping them apart. Once together, the families realize that being united is not all it's cracked up to be. Tickets for the show are $17 for general admission and $15 for patrons under 18 or over 62. The Repertory East Playhouse is also looking for volunteers to help with set construction, costumes, ushering and concessions. For information, call Jason at (661) 288-0000. The theater is located at 24266 San Fernando Road, Newhall. Carol Rock, (661) 257-5252 carol.rock(at)dailynews.com |
