'FAILED'TRAIN CAUSESEARLY MORNINGJAM.


HUNDREDS of commuters were left stranded at Sandhills Station this morning when a train failed at Liverpool Central.

Trains heading into the city centre were at first delayed by up to half an hour and then finally cancelled at Sandhills because of congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

A Merseyrail spokesman said: "At 6.40am an empty train was on its way to the Wirral Line The Wirral Line is one of the two lines operated by Merseyrail on Merseyside, England, the other being the Northern Line. It connects Liverpool with the Wirral Peninsula, with branches to New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port. .

"When it approached Liverpool Central it developed a technical fault and had to be assisted by another train to clear the blockage.

"It took a little while, about half an hour from 6.40m to 7.10am and since then trains are running normally, albeit with a domino effect of a slight backlog.

"All Northern Line trains from Ormskirk, Southport and Kirkby were stacking up.

"That's about four trains and at that time of the morning would be about 250 passengers."
