Brian James, of Stoke Green, was convinced his scheme for the old public lavatories in Stoke Green, off Binley Road, would be a success. The toilets are now earmarked for demolition by the end of summer.

Mr James said: "I've been trying for years to get permission for change of use from the council and convert it into a refreshment kiosk.

"It's a lovely old building and I don't see the point of knocking it down when somebody wants to use it. I'm lost for words."

Mr James added: "It's a really good place for a kiosk as lots of people use the park next to the toilets and it's just what they need, especially in the hot weather.

Mr Wellman said: "We have been requested to demolish the toilets as there is no longer any application to use them.

"Other avenues have been explored but there does not appear to be any alternative."
