'Ex' is held over murder in Spain.


A MERSEYSIDE man is the chief suspect in a murder investigation following the death of his ex-girlfriend.

Twenty-year-old Avril Flanagan is believed to have been stabbed 40 times and had her throat cut.

Her body was found in an apartment in Torrevieja, south of Alicante, Spain.

Her former partner, Alan Daulby, 24, formerly of Blundellsands, disappeared following her death on May 29.
