'Dr Death' brings euthanasia roadshow to UK.

Dr Nitschke, who founded the right-to-die organisation Exit International, said: "We were aware of the demographic in Bournemouth. We knew that there was a lot of retired folk down here.

"The people that generally join Exit are well, elderly folk who are interested in this issue.

"They want options, they want choices. They know the choices or changes to legislation are likely to occur one day but they don't have the time to wait."

This is not the first time Dr Nitschke has tried to take his roadshow to Bournemouth. His last, in October, was cancelled by red-faced council chiefs after they realised he had booked a council-owned education centre to host it.

This time, he booked the Hamilton Hall

Dr Nitschke said: "There needs to be a reshaping of people's education and beliefs around such a subject.

Dr Nitschke, from Darwin, successfully campaigned to have a legal euthanasia law passed in Australia's Northern Territory in the 1990s.

It was overturned by the Australian parliament - but not before he had helped four terminally-ill people end their lives.
