'Don't let council tax debt ruin Christmas'.


COUNCIL bosses have warned that bailiffs could be unwelcome Christmas Christmas [Christ's Mass], in the Christian calendar, feast of the nativity of Jesus, celebrated in Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches on Dec. 25. In liturgical importance it ranks after Easter, Pentecost, and Epiphany (Jan. 6).  guests for anyone not paying their council tax.

Two people have already been jailed in the past month for failing to cough up cough

 City Council's local tax manager, Jacinta Lewis, said: "At this time of year extra money is needed to pay for Christmas treats.

"The city council doesn't want people to have their Christmas ruined if the bailiffs turn up on the door because the council tax hasn't been paid.

"It's very easy to neglect paying council tax when there are so many other demands on your money and on your time. If you pay by cheque or over the counter at a bank, these things can easily slip your mind when you're busy.

"Don't let your Christmas be spoiled because paying a bill slipped your mind."

She encouraged people to set up direct debits with their bank to make paying bills easier.
