'Danger' cars are targeted by police.


Dangerous vehicles that could put lives at risk have been banned from the roads by police.

Their owners have been ordered to carry out essential maintenance work and must prove their vehicles are safe before using them again.

The dodgy cars and vans were targeted by police and examiners from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) provides a range of licensing, testing and enforcement services with the aim of improving the roadworthiness standards of vehicles, ensuring the compliance of operators and drivers, and supporting the independent Traffic Commissioners.  (Vosa) following complaints from people living on the Brackla estate in Bridgend.

During Operation Quadruple, Pc Steve Carpenter, of the Brackla neighbourhood police team, and VOSA's Bob Hill and Kevin Gist pulled over 20 vehicles in Brackla Way.

All were given detailed examinations, including checks on tyre condition, brake lights, indicators, windscreen wipers

 and headlights. The team also checked whether the vehicles they stopped had previously undergone a Vosa examination and were properly taxed, insured and had a current MoT.

Serious faults were found including worn tyres, damaged exhausts, indicator failure and corrosion. Two vehicles were issued with prohibition notices and ordered off the road until the faults are corrected and four motorists were told to get repairs carried out.

Pc Carpenter said: 'The police will continue to work in partnership with Vosa to ensure vehicle owners who do not maintain vehicles in roadworthy road·wor·thy
