'DEVIL MAY CRY 3' UPDATE MAY BRING TEARS OF JOY.Byline: Redmond Carolipio Staff Writer IF THIS is how Capcom says it's sorry, it should cross us more often. ``Devil May Cry This article is about the first game in the series. The original ``Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening'' was the prequel pre·quel n. A literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative takes place before that of a preexisting work or a sequel. It focused on the beginnings of Dante, the series' gunslinging, sword-wielding hero who fused fuse 1 also fuze n. 1. At least that's what people expected after the first two games. As good as ``DMC DMC Devil May Cry (video game) DMC Detroit Medical Center DMC Darryl McDaniels (rapper) DMC Destination Management Company DMC Del Mar College (Corpus Christi, TX) 3'' was, there were two things that ticked off players. First was the difficulty level. The game mercilessly destroyed anyone who wasn't ready for it. Boss battles could end in seconds, and even groups of average foes required big-time stamina Stamina Staying power, endurance. Mentioned in: Tai Chi on the player's part. For many, the game was a test of wills instead of a source of entertainment. The second issue was Dante himself, who morphed from the cool customer in the first game to an obnoxious frat boy with a sword. It doesn't help the game's cause if you hate the hero. ``Special Edition'' addresses both of those issues with the new features. The game is actually a little easier to get through in normal mode, and now there's actually a separate mode aptly called ``very hard.'' This opens the door for not-so-hard-core players to enjoy this third chapter without feeling the need to give up after two hours. Dante's sheer doofus-hood was cured by allowing players to assume the role of Vergil, Dante's evil but infinitely cooler older brother. While the entire experience hasn't been rebuilt around Vergil (the game wouldn't cost $20 if it was), he has a completely different set of moves and weapons. His most notable assets are his samurai-style sword and awesome strength, which he uses to wipe out enemies that would require extreme effort on Dante's part. Fans can consider this a reward after having to watch Vergil smack Dante around and kill enemies with a single blow in ``DMC 3.'' This is a game that should be a must-have for fans of the series. It's taken over the demon-hunting torch from the ``Castlevania'' series, and Dante still has the potential to be a truly memorable character in gaming lore 1.
