Liam Holden was convicted in 1973 of the Capital murder of 17-year-old soldier Frank Bell and possession of a firearm and ammunition. But the Criminal Cases Review Commission has referred his convictions to the Northern Ireland Northern Ireland: see Ireland, Northern. Holden was tried and found guilty by jury before Lord Lowry CJ in April 1973 - eight months after Pvt Bell, from New Ferry in Cheshire, was shot dead in an IRA gun attack in the Ballymurphy area of West Belfast. Holden refused to appeal the case at the time but applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission for a review of his conviction in September 2002. Having considered a range of issues, including new evidence and the admissibility ad·mis·si·ble adj. 1. That can be accepted; allowable: admissible evidence. 2.
