CARDIFF Cardiff (kär`dĭf), Welsh Caerdydd, city and county (1998 est. pop. 320,900), S Wales, on the Taff River near its mouth on the Bristol Channel. Cardiff is the capital of Wales and an important port. Until the early 20th cent.  Civic Society has written to Welsh Government ministers asking them to work with the city's council to create a sustainable local development plan (LDP LDP - Linux Documentation Project ).

David Eggleton, the society's LDP team leader, said any plan needed to tackle housing and transport issues.

"We need a coordinated government and local authority approach to solving the many difficult issues that have to be tackled within the LDP," he said.

"A well thought out city region plan will lead to the development of affordable housing, an integrated transport system and jobs in the region. Such a system will be of benefit to the region as a whole."
