'CSI' WHIPS UP A LURID 90 MINUTES.Byline: David Kronke TV Critic REMEMBER those quaint old days of network TV, when ``very special episodes'' concerned themselves with characters surmounting exotic diseases rather than wallowing in kinky sex? Tonight's special 90-minute episode of ``CSI CSI Crime Scene Investigator CSI CompuServe, Inc. CSI Commodity Systems, Inc. CSI Commodity Systems Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) CSI Crime Scene Investigation (CBS TV show) CSI Christian Schools International : Crime Scene Investigation'' begins with an eye-opener of a scene - a nightclub dance floor fills with soapsuds, enveloping en·vel·op tr.v. en·vel·oped, en·vel·op·ing, en·vel·ops 1. To enclose or encase completely with or as if with a covering: "Accompanying the darkness, a stillness envelops the city" lascivious las·civ·i·ous adj. 1. Given to or expressing lust; lecherous. 2. Exciting sexual desires; salacious. [Middle English, from Late Latin lasc dancers. As the foamy foam·y adj. foam·i·er, foam·i·est 1. Of, consisting of, or resembling foam. 2. Covered with foam. foam soap rises higher, the dancers get dirtier; naturally, a body is discovered before the club kicks into the rinse cycle. The murder weapon is momentarily considered to be the stiletto heel of a woman's strappy sandal. Gil Grissom (William Petersen), placing the offending footwear on a suspect, quips, ``If the shoe fits ...'' Soon a pattern is established: Gigolos are being murdered, and Gil is flirting with a dominatrix (Melinda Clarke) who may have committed the crime - but we know better when she's sensitive enough to realize, without him saying a word, that he's losing his hearing, an ongoing subplot on the series. Meanwhile, Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) finds herself caught up in a murder case involving her ex-husband and her daughter, who is placed in peril. Let's face it - it's kind of silly to have a dominatrix quoting Yeats one moment (Grissom, of course, can place the verse), then portentously por·ten·tous adj. 1. Of the nature of or constituting a portent; foreboding: "The present aspect of society is portentous of great change" Edward Bellamy. 2. declaring, ``I profit from the theatrics of pleasure'' the next. But if any show has earned the opportunity to wallow wallow mud bath frequented by pigs, elephants, red deer, hippopotami as a cooling aid. in the lurid, it's ``CSI,'' with its oft-compelling portrait of Las Vegas' anything-goes amorality. Its band of disparate protagonists manage to remain contradictory seen-it-all innocents (Paul Guilfoyle's nerdy, no-nonsense investigator remains an inspired square peg in a city of round holes, more entertaining and convincing than Ed O'Neill's Joe Friday on the new ``Dragnet''). So if you're left feeling in need of a shower at the end of tonight's episode, you're in good company - Grissom would probably like one, too.
