'CMS Myth' Blog Examines Why Many Web Content Management Projects Fail.

Web strategy, technology, and marketing experts deliver strategic thinking and straight talk about Web CMS success and failure

BOSTON -- The CMS Myth (www.cmsmyth.com), a blog aimed at exposing the myths and realities behind web content management systems and practices, launched today at the 2007 Gilbane Boston Conference. The CMS Myth is a Gilbane exhibitor and presenter.

The blog was created by content management and web strategy experts at ISITE Design (www.isitedesign.com), a full-service interactive agency in Boston and Portland, OR. The blog's mission is to fill a perilous 'expectation gap' among CMS adopters, a significant factor driving many CMS implementation failures.

"Vendors of web content management solutions like to tout products that are feature-rich and easy to implement, but they frequently gloss over the myriad of complexities that go into a successful CMS implementation project," said Jeff Cram, a contributor to The CMS Myth and co-founder of ISITE Design. Additional 'Myth' contributors include George Ross, ISITE's Technology Director, and David Aponovich, a former web content management software marketer who co-leads ISITE's CMS practice.

"At the same time, many customers believe CMS is a 'silver bullet' that will solve their website and content challenges. These organizations have a hard time understanding that a successful CMS project isn't just about the technology; it's really about your plan, your people, and your processes - it's about your overall web strategy," said Cram.

The role of web content management is more critical than ever in helping organizations deliver world-class experiences to support business and marketing objectives.

Industry analysts point to a frequent disconnect between vendor promises and user reality, suggesting that CMS implementation projects fail, or otherwise fall short of expectations, in 50 percent of cases or more.

"By providing opinion and commentary about CMS systems, strategies and best practices The CMS Myth aims to improve organizations' chances for a successful website project," said Cram.
