Santa Monica-based Fandango fandango (făndăng`gō), ancient Spanish dance, probably of Moorish origin, that came into Europe in the 17th cent. MovieTickets.com was boosted by being selected by Lucasfilm to be the exclusive ticketing service for ``Clones'' on the movie's official Web site, StarWars.com. The service sold 758,604 tickets for showings Thursday through Sunday, edging past its previous top seller, ``Potter,'' which had sold 739,507 tickets in November.

``By offering tickets in advance, we made it possible for fans to see the film on its opening weekend,'' said Mitchell Rubenstein, co-CEO of MovieTickets.com.

The third major online service, AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  Moviefone, doesn't release sales figures but said its business doubled last week with 85 percent of overall ticket sales going to ``Clones.''

Customers who buy the advanced tickets either online or by telephone, are assured of a ticket on opening night at their preferred time. For a service fee of between 75 cents and $1, they are spared the hassle Hassle () is a location in Närke, Sweden, where a Celtic treasure was found in 1936.
