'CHO SHOW' PROMISES TOMFOOLERY.Byline: GREG HERNANDEZ It was like some kind of red carpet dream. Margaret Cho, looking as lovely as ever, emerged from this massive crush of people in front of the Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A. on Wednesday night and was led right to me by a publicist pub·li·cist n. One who publicizes, especially a press or publicity agent. publicist Noun a person, such as a press agent or journalist, who publicizes something publicist . It was all I could do not to blurt out Verb 1. blurt out - utter impulsively; "He blurted out the secret"; "He blundered his stupid ideas" blunder out, blurt, ejaculate, blunder mouth, speak, talk, verbalise, verbalize, utter - express in speech; "She talks a lot of nonsense"; "This depressed : "It's Margaret Cho!" Margaret was there to open Outfest 2008 but spent some time chatting with me about her new series, "The Cho Show," which debuts Aug. 21 on VH1. It's her first weekly series since her 1994-95 ABC ABC in full American Broadcasting Co. Major U.S. television network. It began when the expanding national radio network NBC split into the separate Red and Blue networks in 1928. sitcom "All-American Girl," which was a nightmare for the comedienne because of network pressure for her to lose weight and to tone down her trademark edgy humor. She turned that negative experience into a hugely successful concert film, "I'm the One That I Want," which resulted in a series of follow-up concerts and DVDs that has continued unabated. "It's most fun being myself," she said. "Everything really changed after I started doing more independent stuff. ... I'm really happy to be returning to television with the show." On "The Cho Show," Margaret is calling the shots. "It's our real sitcom; it's the first really real Asian-American sitcom," she said. "We had it with 'All-American Girl' and now we have the real version of it, something I created and I'm a producer on. It's sort of like a reality show, but it's kind of like a hybrid. It's really very scripted. It's a very new kind of genre, and I'm very excited about it." A highlight should be appearances by Margaret's parents. Her hilarious imitation of her mother has always been one of the funniest parts of her act. She did a little bit of her mother for me on the red carpet and had me in stitches. So what can people expect from the show? Said Margaret: "They can expect a lot of outrageousness, a lot of fun, a lot of tomfoolery, a lot of hijinks hi·jinks pl.n. Variant of high jinks. As part of the gift bag, they give you a little Vaseline holder that is bedazzled. I still have it; it's in my purse. It is my favorite thing that I have ever been given by a celebrity because every time I take it out, it's a conversation piece. I love that wherever I am, people are like: 'Where did you get that Vaseline?' And I just go, 'Oh, Tyra Banks gave it to me.' I know, I'm kind of implying that we're friends, and we're clearly not."
