'Brave' TV actor veteran Woodward dies, aged 79.


VETERAN actor Edward Woodward, who was known for his roles in The Wicker Man For other uses, see The Wicker Man (disambiguation).
The Wicker Man was a large wicker statue of a human allegedly used by the ancient Druids for human sacrifice by burning it in effigy, according to Julius Caesar in his Commentarii de Bello Gallico (
 and The Equalizer, died yesterday.

The 79-year-old had been suffering from various illnesses, including pneumonia, and died in hospital, his agent said.

Woodward rose to fame in the 1960s and early 1970s in the television spy series, Callan.
