'Blacklist' firms hit by notices.


FOURTEEN construction firms who were involved in a "blacklist (1) A list of e-mail addresses of known spammers. See spam, spam filter, Blacklist of Internet Advertisers, greylisting and blackholing. Contrast with white list.

(2) A list of Web sites that are considered off limits or dangerous.

The companies allegedly paid Ian Kerr Ian Kerr is a Canadian academic who is recognized as an international expert in emerging law and technology issues. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Ethics, Law, and Technology at the University of Ottawa.  and The Consulting Association for access to a database of 3213 construction workers, which was used to vet potential employees.

The enforcement notices were issued by the information commissioner's office to ensure the firms comply with the Data Protection Act.

David Smith, deputy information commis-sionersaid:"Theindividuals were denied the opportunity of explaining or correcting what may have been inaccurate personal information."
