John has held the post of GP on Colonsay in the Hebrides for 10 years but is leaving to be nearer family on the mainland. The post he is leaving has a lot to recommend it, including a newly renovated house with stunning views, only 123 patients and the natural beauty of the island's beaches. "They have got to like living in this sort of environment. They are on their own and are on call 24/7. If they are used to a city practice, they are in for a culture shock."
