'Band-Aid Bandit' guilty of bank robberyA man known as the Band-Aid Bandit for wearing bandages to hide a distinctive mole was found guilty Thursday of stealing more than $500,000 from Florida banks along with his brother-in-law. The federal jury convicted Rafael Angel Rondon, 51, and brother-in-law Emeregildo Roman, 54, in the robberies of 11 banks in west and central Florida over five years. After Rondon was arrested last July, agents searching his home in the Orlando suburb of Clermont found adhesive bandages, a distinctive silver revolver similar to the one used by the bandit and almost $90,000 cash _ some wads still wrapped in bank bands. More cash, disguises and a gun were found in Roman's house in Davenport, about 30 miles south. Defense attorneys said authorities arrested the wrong men. Rondon and Roman face up to life in prison. No sentencing date was set. Agents believe that Rondon robbed 39 banks in nine counties between December 2000 and July 2006, sometimes with the help of an accomplice. The indictment focused on cases with the strongest evidence.
