'BEAUTIFUL,' 'ROUGE' CAPTURE TOP BILLING.

The Hollywood awards season kicked into high gear Thursday with nominations for the 59th Golden Globes Awards, which gave six bids apiece to ``A Beautiful Mind,'' starring Russell Crowe as a schizophrenic math genius, and the stylized styl·ize

Of course, they get two shots at it, with best picture categories in drama and comedy or musical. The Globes' track record in other categories, however, is more hit and miss.

So far, the award season has been all over the place. Earlier this month the New York New York, state, United States

However, veteran movie publicist Tony Angellotti said that unlike most critics groups, the Globe nominations and those just announced for the new American Film Institute American Film Institute (AFI), nonprofit organization established in Washington, D.C., in 1967 by the National Endowment for the Arts to preserve and catalog American films and television, to provide work grants for new and established filmmakers, and to increase  Awards, which slides in with its inaugural ceremony Jan. 5, should be good indicators of the Oscar nominations.

And being a massive box office hit doesn't mean award success, either. ``Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'' was shut out of the Globe competition. But that is unlikely to deter Warner Bros BROS Brothers

The films that did do well with Globe members include ``Gosford Park,'' Robert Altman's soon-to-be-released treatment of an English murder mystery, which garnered five nominations, including Best Musical or Comedy motion picture and Best Director.

Other drama motion picture nominees were: ``In the Bedroom,'' ``The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring,'' ``The Man Who Wasn't There,'' and ``Mulholland Drive For the motion picture, see .

``It is the whole range of my work that has been recognized by the Golden Globes, and that makes me very happy,'' Kingsley said.

Thornton said the two nominations were a bonus on top of the pleasure of playing those roles.

``I was just so happy to get to play two parts like that so close together,'' he said. ``For an actor it's quite a workout.''
