Qantas Airways and G'Day USA partners bring Adelaide Symphony Orchestra together with Australian entertainment heavyweights for ultimate concert event at Carnegie Hall
LOS ANGELES -- The documentary film highlighting the historic concert event, 'Australia Plays Broadway,' will premiere Saturday, March 28, 2009, on the Independent Film Channel.
Qantas Airways along with its G'Day USA founding partners, Austrade, Department of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Australia, brought the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra from Australia to the U.S. to play the famed Carnegie Hall. During the G'Day San Francisco leg of the 10-day festival, the Orchestra arrived on the first ever Qantas A380 flight from Australia to San Francisco International Airport before heading on to New York City. The historic concert event was filmed during the 6th Annual G'Day USA Australia Week festival, the largest foreign country promotion held in the U.S., and was headlined by Olivia Newton-John.
"The concert documentary tracks the orchestra's journey and features some of the world's most beloved Australian entertainers along with emerging Australian artists that offer American and international audiences a chance to experience the depth of performing arts talent like they've never seen before," said Wally Mariani, Qantas Airways senior executive vice president, The Americas and Pacific.
"As a sponsor of the G'Day USA events, Qantas was extremely proud to work with the Australian New York Consul General's office to facilitate their momentous journey and this incredible concert experience," he added.
"This documentary takes a new approach to showcasing Australia, and inspires its audience with an entirely fresh yet authentic perspective on contemporary Australian culture, art, trade and tourism," said Australia's Consul General in New York and Australia Week Steering Committee Chairman, the Hon. John Olsen AO.
"The compelling nature of this program is emblematic of the exceptional performers who served as proud Australian ambassadors during G'Day USA."
The Independent Film Channel is broadcast to 49 million homes. 'Australia Plays Broadway' will also air on April 26, 2009 on ABC's Australia Network, comprising Ovation Australia, Network 10 Australia and ATN Asia Pacific reaching another 22 million homes.
