Five Tech-Savvy Accounting Students Awarded $1,000 Scholarships;

New Contest Gets Under Way for 2000-2001 Academic Year

 have presented $1,000 checks to five students in the Account for Your Future scholarship program, and kicked off the fall term contest.

The program, now in its fourth year, honors academic excellence as well as students' recognition of technology's role in the accounting field. Five scholarships are awarded in the fall term and five in the spring.

"These students thoughtfully and thoroughly discussed their understanding of technology's impact on the accounting industry, demonstrated extracurricular involvement and shared insightful career goals," said Don Mason, general manager of Pro2Net's accounting business unit.

The winners, chosen from more than 1,200 students who applied last spring, are:

-- Chris Kocher, University of Central Florida

-- Natalia Koptsova, Southern Arkansas University

-- Sarah LeSueur, University of Notre Dame

-- Suzanne Sutton, Eastern Washington University

"It's especially rewarding to help these dedicated young people complete their educations and launch their careers with a boost from the Account for Your Future program," said Colleen Scollan, senior marketing manager at John Wiley & Sons.

"This year's applicants were talented, ambitious achievers who are going to play a key role in our industry," added Laura Bonner, KPMG's senior project specialist for university relations. "What's more, they've grown up with technology and fully understand the challenges and opportunities it presents."

In keeping with the high-tech theme of the program, the entire application process is online. The program is open to full-time students enrolled at accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

 colleges or universities. Applicants must have declared a major in accounting and completed at least 24 semester hours or 45 quarter hours. Full-time graduate students are also eligible, if they have undergraduate degrees in accounting and are pursuing advanced degrees in accounting or taxation.
