'ANDERSONS' GOOD, BUT WHERE'S THE KANGAROO?Byline: David Kronke TV Critic 'ALL ABOUT the Andersons'' may just be all about the Benjamins - a bunch of writers and actors looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Anthony Anderson (who, courageously enough, still lists ``Kangaroo Jack'' among his credits alongside ``Barbershop'' and ``Me, Myself and Irene'') stars as Anthony Anderson, a still-struggling actor whose wife's abandonment forces him to return home to his parents (John Amos and Roz Ryan), with 8-year-old son Tuga (Damani Roberts) in tow. Truth be told, Tuga's the only thing that gets Anthony in the front door. Anthony's stern father thinks his son is squandering squan·der tr.v. squan·dered, squan·der·ing, squan·ders 1. To spend wastefully or extravagantly; dissipate. See Synonyms at waste. 2. his life waiting for a big break and thinks it's time for him to grow up and take responsibility - in a dead-end job at his barbershop. (There are several inside jokes referencing Anderson's films, including, yes, one to ``Kangaroo Jack''). Anthony wants to pursue his dreams and in each episode seems to get an emotional soliloquy soliloquy, the speech by a character in a literary composition, usually a play, delivered while the speaker is either alone addressing the audience directly or the other actors are silent. explaining why - easy, buddy, you've got the job You've Got The Job is a television show that airs on the Seven Network in Australia. He also bickers so vociferously with his father that you wonder why he can't find other living arrangements. When mom sends Tuga upstairs as another tiff is brewing, the youngster protests, ``I want to hear.'' ``Oh, you will, you will,'' Ma replies. Though based loosely on Anderson's own life - his father really did padlock the refrigerator, as occurs in next week's episode - ``All About the Andersons'' is a pretty rote sitcom about families that both bicker bick·er intr.v. bick·ered, bick·er·ing, bick·ers 1. To engage in a petty, bad-tempered quarrel; squabble. See Synonyms at argue. 2. and love too much. What elevates it is the cast - Anderson is eminently likable, Amos and Ryan earn laughs like the reliable veterans they are, and Roberts is a scene-stealer in the making. Rounding out the cast is Aimee Garcia as the Andersons' boarder Lydia (explaining why Anthony is relegated to sleeping in the garage); their scenes together as they ``perform'' extemporaneous ex·tem·po·ra·ne·ous adj. 1. Carried out or performed with little or no preparation; impromptu: an extemporaneous piano recital. 2. scenes relating to their lives (she as a doctor delivering bad news to a patient, he attempting to forestall the flop sweat of a first date) are among each episode's highlights. ``Andersons'' is hardly groundbreaking, but it manages an agreeable balance between humorous and heartfelt moments. Anthony at one points tells his son, ``I'm not quitting - I'm setting an example.'' Tuga replies, ``As a quitter quit·ter n. One who gives up easily. Noun 1. quitter - a person who gives up too easily individual, mortal, person, somebody, someone, soul - a human being; "there was too much for one person to do" ?'' But this show doesn't figure on quitting anytime soon.
