Joe Chambers said their eclectic sound derived from the music the brothers heard growing up in the South: gospel music, country music, blues.

"Our music is pretty much out of a bag all its own," he said. "We just blended our music with the gospel sound, the blues sound, the rock sound. It comes out Chambers Brothers."

They had their first hit with "The Time Has Come Today," described by a recent reviewer as a combination of "edgy rock, strident R & B and spacey spac·ey

They followed up with "People Get Ready," "Can't Turn You Loose" and "Love, Peace and Happiness" - staples of their stage show today.

After going their separate ways, the brothers reunited at promoter Bill Graham's request for the 1989 benefit concert for victims of the quake that hit the Bay Area. The performance went so well that Joe, Willie and George began performing again, accompanied by nephew Jerry Warner Chambers.

They have performed all around the country. Wednesday they were scheduled to play at the club actor Bruce Willis Walter Bruce Willis (born March 19, 1955) is an American actor and singer.
