'35W Coalition' Formed to Foster Transportation and Development Guidelines on I-35W.


FORT WORTH, Texas Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas, 18th-largest city in the United States[1], and voted one of "America’s Most Livable Communities.  -- A group of concerned citizens, business and land owners, developers and local and state officials today announced the official formation of the "35W Coalition," a private, nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

Nonprofits are also called not-for-profit corporations. Nonprofit corporations are created according to state law.
 group that will serve as a catalyst in developing a plan for Fort Worth's burgeoning growth in the North Corridor.

The Coalition's mission is to "Keep 35W Moving North" by finding solutions to transportation and traffic problems and encouraging quality development along I-35W in north Fort Worth and into Denton Denton, city (1990 pop. 66,270), seat of Denton co., N Tex.; inc. 1866. The city lies in an agricultural and industrial region, but the economy is based on education and research. The Univ. of North Texas, Texas Woman's Univ.  County.

The 35W Coalition's efforts are focused on two areas:

--To significantly improve traffic flow on I-35W north from Meacham Boulevard to SH 114 (the Texas Motor Speedway Texas Motor Speedway is a superspeedway located in the northernmost portion of the U.S. city of Fort Worth, Texas -- the portion located in Denton County, Texas. The track layout is very similar to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor ) and the east/west corridor along Loop 820 and I-35W, and

--To foster quality development and adopt development guidelines guidelines,

"We want to be part of the solution on the front end, helping community partners improve transportation in this region while preserving the visual appeal and commercial value along major roads," said Mac Churchill of Mac Churchill Acura and chairman of the 35W Coalition. "We also want to effectively communicate with area residents, businesses and landowners, as well as policymakers, to ensure that all parties' concerns are addressed.

The Coalition's targeted area is 107 square miles A square mil is a unit of area, equal to the area of a square with sides of length one mil. A mil is one thousandth of an international inch. This unit of area is usually used in specifying the area of the cross section of a wire or cable.  of land along I-35W, which includes business, industrial, retail and residential developments.

The Coalition will be holding landowner workshops on Wednesdays, January 25, February 22 and March 22 at 6 p.m. at the Buxton Company offices, 2651 S. Polaris Driver in Fort Worth. Complete information will be posted on the Coalition's website: www.35Wcoalition.com.
