Silent film star Laura La Plante Asher, one of Universal Studios' leading ladies in the 1920s, died after an extended illness. She was 91. Asher died Monday at the Motion Picture & Television Hospital in Woodland Hills, the Motion Picture and Television Fund announced. Asher, who used the screen name Laura La Plante, appeared in more than 50 movies and serials. She was the female lead opposite Hoot Gibson and other cowboy cowboy Horseman skilled at handling cattle in the U.S. West.
