''Unsung Heroes'' Program Names First Winner for 2006.

WASHINGTON -- Stars and Stripes, the daily newspaper of the U.S. military, in conjunction with sponsor Miller Brewing Company, has announced that Col. Jack Holly has been selected as the first "Hero of the Month" since its campaign "Unsung Heroes" began this year. Col. Holly, winner for the month of May, is a former Marine combat officer who provides the troops in Iraq with the equipment they need and ensures that all logistic requirements are met for the coalition forces. He is being lauded for his leadership skills and his helpful and inspiring demeanor when dealing with soldiers, sailors and Marines.

The goal of the Miller "Unsung Heroes" program is to recognize people in the military community who work hard and whose efforts may go unnoticed. This program, launched last year with great success, receives full support from the Miller Brewing Company, as it gives the opportunity to read first-hand stories of everyday military life with its joys and sacrifices.

Each month through January 2007 Miller Brewing Company will recognize one nominee for the Miller Unsung Hero Award. The program will culminate on February 2007 with the selection of the "Miller Unsung Hero of the Year" honoree. Each winner is saluted with a full-page story in Stars and Stripes. In addition, each person recognized as a "Miller Unsung Hero of the Month" and "Miller Unsung Hero of the Year" will receive an awards package from Miller expressing the company's gratitude for his or her contributions.
