The bill was passed out of committee unopposed and will now move to the Assembly Appropriations Committee In the United States government, the Appropriations Committee can refer to either:
  • the United States House Committee on Appropriations
  • the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations
for review. Authored by Speaker of the Assembly Fabian Nunez, (D - Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. ), and co-authored by Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee Chair Lloyd Levine, (D - Van Nuys), AB2987 seeks to modernize an outdated regulatory process which serves as a barrier to video competition in California and replace it with a new, state-issued authorization. The goals of the new legislation are to encourage investment and new jobs in the state, and speed the availability of innovative video technologies and new choices for consumers.

The following may be attributed to Ken McNeely, President, AT&T California:

"We're pleased with the outcome of today's vote and that AB2987 will now move to the next step in the process towards helping California's cable customers save $1 billion a year with a real competitive choice - along with significant investments and job growth in the state.
