`Youth' diet study.A MAJOR study aimed at slowing down the ageing process has been launched. Scientists at Liverpool John Moores University Originally founded as a small mechanics institution (Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts) in 1825, the institution grew over the centuries by converging and amalgamating with different colleges and eventually became the Liverpool Polytechnic. will track 400 volunteers to determine the exercise and diet which best keeps people healthy. The project will be housed in a new pounds 500,000 facility at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. Professor David Goldspink said: ``We already know that someone who is 60 years old and has led an active life can have a better functioning heart than an inactive in·ac·tive adj. 1. Not active or tending to be active. 2. a. Not functioning or operating; out of use: inactive machinery. b. 20-year-old. ``If we introduce an inactive 60-year-old to the right exercise we can slow down the ageing process.''
