Byline: Mark Kellam Valley News Writer

Every morning, Mabel Katz Katz , Bernard 1911-2003.

German-born British physiologist. He shared a 1970 Nobel Prize for the study of nerve impulse transmission.
of Woodland Hills welcomes thousands of visitors into her living room.

No, she doesn't live in the Taj Mahal Taj Mahal (täzh məhäl`, täj məhŭl`), mausoleum, Agra, Uttar Pradesh state, N India, on the Yamuna River. It is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and the finest example of the late style of Indian . She has a cable television show called ``Despertar,'' which airs Monday through Friday from 6 to 6:30 a.m. on Channel 22. ``Despertar'' means ``wake up'' in Spanish Spanish, river, c.150 mi (240 km) long, issuing from Spanish Lake, S Ont., Canada, NW of Sudbury, and flowing generally S through Biskotasi and Agnew lakes to Lake Huron opposite Manitoulin island. There are several hydroelectric stations on the river. .

Cameras and lights fill her living room each Saturday as five shows are taped for the upcoming week.

Aimed at a Spanish-speaking audience, Katz covers a variety of topics, but her focus is on helping viewers improve their lives. Katz, who moved to California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  from Argentina in 1983, has an accounting degree. She has a private accounting practice, which she operates from her home.

Many of her segments address financial issues, such as how to start a small business, how to apply for grants and how to buy a first home. ``The Latino community needs a lot of help with those things,'' she said.

She occasionally blends in lighter topics such as how to make a romantic relationship work and how to find the perfect mate. She'll also bring on Latino celebrities such as Lupe Ontiveros, who appeared in ABC's ``Desperate Housewives Desperate Housewives is an American television comedy-drama series, created by Marc Cherry, who also serves as show runner, and produced by ABC Studios - The Walt Disney Company's main television studio - and Cherry Productions. .''

No matter the topic or guest, Katz concentrates on showing viewers they need to take ``100 percent responsibility'' for their lives.

``They learn they can be financially independent,'' she said. ``Just because you come from a poor family or don't have a university degree, that doesn't mean you can't be successful.''

Katz said she decided to start a television show after she wrote a book titled ``The Easiest Way,'' which was published in English and Spanish. When she went on TV shows to discuss her book, she found that people responded very favorably fa·vor·a·ble
