`Vanities': Three girls coming of age.

"Vanities," a bittersweet bittersweet, name for two unrelated plants, belonging to different families, both fall-fruiting woody vines sometimes cultivated for their decorative scarlet berries.  comedy about three small-town Texas girls growing up in the 1960s and '70s, will open Wednesday in the University of Oregon's arena theater, 104 Villard Hall Villard Hall is a historic building located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Completed in 1886, it is the second-oldest building on the University of Oregon campus after Deady Hall. The Second Empire-style building was listed on National Register of Historic Places in 1972. , 1109 Old Campus Lane.

OPENING THIS WEEK

Directed by theater arts doctoral candidate Elizabeth Helman, the University Theatre Second Season production will run through Nov. 6.

In "Vanities," playwright Jack Heifner traces 10 years of social evolution through the girls' views on college, friendship and their place in the world. The play also explores the competition and manipulation among the friends and the insecurities of growing up.

The cast consists of Jeannie Hou, Lauren Olson and Bethany Mason. The production team includes set designer Tara Wenger, costume costume, distinctive forms of clothing, including official or ceremonial attire such as ecclesiastical vestments, coronation robes, academic gowns, armor, and theatrical dress.  designer Sarah Gahagan, lighting designer Susan Davis Susan A.  Rose and stage manager Ryan Peavey. Laura Lawson is the assistant stage manager, Heidi Turnquist is the assistant costume designer and Brittinie Harper is the dramaturg.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday of this week and Thursday through Saturday of the following week, Nov. 4-6.

Admission is $6 general admission; $5 for seniors, UO faculty/staff and non-UO students; and $4 for UO students. Tickets are sold at the UO ticket office in the Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave AVE Avenue
