Gary Auer, special agent for the Ventura office of the FBI, said investigators believe that ``the typed-note bandit'' was responsible for the robbery.

Auer said the man is wanted in connection with four other bank robberies in Ventura County this year and more than 30 others in Southern California dating back more than a year. The Ventura County robberies he is suspected of committing occurred May 4 in Westlake Village, May 7 in Thousand Oaks, May 14 in Ventura and July 8 in Ventura.

Tuesday's robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank branch was number 39 for the county so far in 1996, compared to 31 during the same period in 1995, Auer said.

``We are essentially on our normal pace,'' said Auer, who noted that typically 50 to 55 bank robberies occur in the county each year.
