`TRUE LIES' SEQUEL NEXT PROJECT FOR ARNOLD, CAMERON.

With ``Titanic'' drawing raves in industry insider circles, it seems a certainty that director James Cameron is being swamped with follow-up offers. But according to Tom Arnold, Cameron already has his next project set: It's the sequel to ``True Lies,'' in which Tom played Arnold Schwarzenegger's partner. He says the three of them already have been in discussions about it, and ``We're all ready to go after the first of the year.''

Arnold's WB network sitcom ``The Tom Show'' goes on hiatus in February, so he'll be available for ``Lies II.'' But what about Schwarzenegger? ``Arnold will make the time,'' Tom says with confidence.

Tom's sitcom has gotten a pickup order from Warners, so he's in a particularly mellow mood these days. Which makes him particularly sorry about what went down between him and Roseanne's current spouse recently.

``I was at the Rolling Stones concert and spotted Ben (Thomas, Roseanne's current husband). The last time I had seen him was three years ago in court. I didn't know how he'd feel about seeing me, but I went over and said hello. He jumped up and gave me a big hug, and it felt good. I hate to have feuds going. It doesn't work for me. I really felt wonderful about it - until the next day. Roseanne had her lawyers write me a letter saying that I should leave Ben alone.''

No show, no glory

No wonder Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival gets so many big names. Seems they don't issue awards unless the recipient shows up. For instance, it was announced - and reported in the Hollywood trade papers - that Judy Davis would be honored with the Piper Heidsieck award for lifetime achievement. However, it turns out that the actress, who is getting powerfully good buzz for her performance in Woody Allen's ``Deconstructing Harry,'' is unable to make the fest. And as it turns out, we understand, they'll be honoring someone else's lifetime achievement.

Celebrity sports

Britain's most contentious and misbehaving rock star brothers, Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis, intend to be at Madison Square Garden Dec. 19 for - what else? - a fight. Seems the bickering brothers are both fans of undefeated featherweight Prince Nazeem Hamed, who is a sensation in his homeland - he was born in the north of England to Yemeni parents - and who headlines a card with Kevin Kelley as his opponent.

``Naz,'' as he is known in the United Kingdom, has a theatrical style and a following among the rich and famous. In fact, he's visited Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch twice since meeting the pop star last year.

Dustin Hoffman unexpectedly turned football prognosticator when Todd Newton, host of E! Entertainment's ``Coming Attractions'' show, talked to the actor at last week's Fire & Ice celebrity gala benefit. He let Newton know he's picking Green Bay, Kansas City, Denver and San Francisco to get to the Super Bowl finals.

Newton answered that he's a Green Bay Packers fan, and Hoffman said he's for the K.C. Chiefs - and whipped out 10 bucks to make it official. Newton's producer is holding two $10 bills for Dustin and Todd while they await the outcome.

Worthy of note

The big-screen ``The Avengers,'' with Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes playing stylish retro spies Emma Peel and Jonathan Steed, is turning out to be ``fabulous, really delicious, certainly unique,'' according to master filmland composer Michael Kamen.

Kamen, who is seeing the film ``in bits and pieces'' as he works on the score, adds that the picture ``relates cinematically to something like `Brazil' - and also `Die Hard.' ''

Kamen takes time out from his work Friday night to be honored with the 1997 Magnum Opus Award from the University of Southern California, which is establishing a music scholarship in his name. Besides his creative contributions to music, he's the driving force behind the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation (www.mhopus.org), which is dedicated to keeping music alive in our school7s. ``I can't solve all the problems in music education, but nobody can prevent me from putting instruments into schools,'' says Kamen, whose movie credits, of course, include ``Mr. Holland's Opus.'' Plus ``Die Hard.'' Plus ``Brazil,'' ``Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,'' ``Don Juan De Marco'' and more.

His favorite selections - and a haunting rendition of ``Brazil'' by Kate Bush - will be featured on his first purely Kamen album, due in March, titled ``Michael Kamen's Opus.''
