United Parcel Service United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE: UPS), commonly referred to as UPS, is the world's largest package delivery company, delivering more than 15 million packages[1] a day to 6.1 million customers in over 200 countries and territories around the world.  operated Friday, after the Teamsters union Teamsters Union, U.S. labor union formed in 1903 by the amalgamation of the Team Drivers International Union and the Teamsters National Union. Its full name is the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers of America (IBT).  postponed a threatened strike and contract negotiations continued.

An all-night negotiating session broke up early Friday, then resumed in the afternoon. It was unclear late Friday how much progress was made, but some observers said the pressure was off negotiators until Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. , since UPS weekend deliveries are minimal.

expired at midnight Thursday. The talks have been closely watched because UPS is the world's largest package deliverer, making about 80 percent of all U.S. package deliveries.

Tony Ford, president of Teamsters Local 71, said members hope to keep working while a settlement is negotiated, but will strike if key issues are not resolved.

One key, Ford said, is that UPS - the world's largest Teamsters employer - wants to get out of the Teamsters' pension plan. ``We're just not going to turn over the pension plan to them,'' he said.

UPS also wants the right to subcontract some of its best jobs: driving big trucks for $50,000 a year. If the best jobs are subcontracted to independent drivers, Teamsters can't work their way up in the UPS system, Ford said.

UPS says it wants a joint administration of a pension plan for its workers, rather than having them grouped with workers from other companies in a union plan. The company also said few jobs are subcontracted.

Other key issues are salary, benefits and the large percentage of part-time workers at UPS.
