`SUPER TRACK' NOT SUPER; SANTA ANITA EVENT IS OFF.

ARCADIA - Santa Anita Santa Anita may refer to:

 has canceled an event that would have matched a team of horses and jockeys from California against a team from Florida.

The six-race competition was to have shared the stage with the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap The Santa Anita Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in the late winter at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. It is a Grade I race for horses three years old and up, and is considered the most important race for older horses in North America during  on Saturday. Track officials cited a lack of preparation time in calling off the so-called ``Super Track'' series, which was conceived less than a month ago.

``We underestimated what it would take to overcome the obstacles inherent in moving that many horses 3,000 miles from one racing jurisdiction to another,'' Santa Anita president Jack Liebau said.

The race is a Grade II event with a purse of $150,000 and is open to three-year-olds willing to race one mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt.  for 3- year-olds and the $400,000 Kilroe Mile (formerly the Arcadia Handicap The Arcadia Handicap is a race for Thoroughbred horses held at Santa Anita Park usually in the beginning of April. The Arcadia is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one mile over the turf.

A Grade II event, it offers a purse of $150,000.
