`SUNSHINE' GLAAD TO BE AMONG NOMINEES GAY GROUP TO HONOR MAINSTREAM MEDIA.

The independent films ``Little Miss Sunshine'' and ``Quinceanera'' and the mainstream comedy ``Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby'' were among the movies with gay characters to receive nominations for the 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards The GLAAD Media Awards were created in 1990 by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation to recognize and honor the mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. .

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation announced the nominations Sunday evening at the Sundance Film Festival, where ``Quinceanera'' won both the audience award and grand jury prize a year ago. ``Sunshine'' and ``Talladega'' will compete for outstanding wide release film along with ``The Night Listener,'' ``Running With Scissors'' and ``V for Vendetta.''

``Quinceanera'' is among the outstanding film nominees that had limited release. The others are ``The History Boys,'' ``Imagine Me & You,'' ``Shortbus'' and ``Summer Storm.''

``These bold projects, images and voices have once again raised the bar for excellence in media representations of our lives,'' GLAAD GLAAD Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation  president Neil Giuliano said. ``As we continue to fight against forces that threaten our progress toward equality, it's gratifying grat·i·fy

In the television categories, broadcast networks unexpectedly outpaced cable networks 18 nominations to 12. ABC ABC

It competes with episodes of ``30 Rock,'' ``Cold Case,'' ``American Dad!'' and ``How I Met Your Mother How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) is a CBS sitcom that premiered on September 19, 2005. Created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, the show received generally positive reviews. .''

Competing for best drama series overall were shows that all had prominent continuing gay story lines: ``Brothers & Sisters,'' ``The L Word,'' ``Hex hex, witchcraft or one who works it. The word is of German origin, and beliefs connected with it spread from Europe to the United States, especially to the Pennsylvania Dutch country. ,'' ``The Sopranos'' and ``South of Nowhere.''

The shows up for outstanding comedy series are ``Desperate Housewives,'' ``The Office,'' ``So NoTORIous'' and ``Ugly Betty.''

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova will be a special honoree at GLAAD's L.A. awards ceremony. Awards are also handed out at ceremonies in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
, San Francisco and South Florida.

GLAAD honors mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards will be broadcast April 21 on Logo, MTV's cable channel dedicated to gay programming.
