`SLING BLADE' ACTOR'S WIFE CONTENDS ABUSE, GETS RESTRAINING ORDER.

The fourth wife of ``Sling Blade'' star Billy Bob Thornton Robert George (Bob) Thornton (born July 10 1962, in Los Angeles, California) is a retired American professional basketball player in the NBA whose career lasted from 1985 to 1996. He was a 6'10" 225 forward. He holds career averages of 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 283 total games.  has won a temporary restraining order temporary restraining order: see injunction.  against the Oscar winner, after claiming he has beaten her repeatedly and threatened to kill her.

Just last month, Thornton appeared at the Academy Awards show with his wife of four years to pick up his golden statuette for the year's best screenplay based on material previously produced or published.

But now 27-year-old Pietra Dawn Thornton contends in court papers supporting the restraining order restraining order: see injunction.  that Thornton has punched, shoved, bitten and choked her, once even vowing to kill her.

In a statement released through his publicist, Thornton said: ``I'm sorry that Pietra's advisers have convinced her to take this malicious and untruthful course of action by making these false accusations of physical and mental abuse.

``Our marriage was not perfect, but I never exhibited the behavior she's accused me of. Our concerns right now should be about our sons who will suffer the most as a result of her advisers' conduct.''

Thornton rose from relative obscurity to direct, write and star in the smash hit ``Sling Blade,'' a movie about a retarded ex-convict who was abused and neglected as a child.

Now his wife claims that Thornton's own mental problems and physical abuse from his father are responsible for his unpredictable acts of violence against her.

Pietra Thornton contends that physical abuse began several years ago, when she was four or five months' pregnant with their first child and Billy Bob Thornton allegedly began pushing and shoving her.
