Thal was happy to take the role because it afforded him a challenge. ``I'm always excited by the idea of making choices that are departures. It keeps things interesting for me,'' he said. ``It's easy to become typecast in Hollywood, so I think it's a great idea to try to have some variety. And I thought that the script really allowed for a lot, especially in conjunction with a director like Nick. There's so much for an actor to do. Samson's journey is such an interesting one.'' The role of Samson proved physically demanding for Thal, which was no surprise. Filming in Morocco, the cast and crew faced the desert winds and the vagaries of weather and a tight shooting schedule. ``We went through some different environmental changes in climate and altitude,'' Thal said, ``and I think that initially affected us. The winds were really powerful in Morocco. The fight sequence, for example, with the rescuing of Naomi, that was one of the windiest days we had.
