With so much information available today, online and in print, business professionals often wonder, how can this information be harnessed effectively so that research time does not eat into all-important face time?

The answer to the question exists with a new web offering from Illumen, a revolutionary new product for business professionals that effectively manages and streamlines all types of information--from the world of news, commentary, legislation and regulation--with an easily accessible tool that `learns' user preferences and `pushes' only relevant information to the user in written, audio and video formats. Illumen, which launched a Beta version A pre-shipping release of hardware or software that has gone through alpha test. "Illumen is driven by the idea of `push versus pull,' whereby users `train' the program to feed specific information to them based on their content consumption," said Peter A. Anthony, president and chief executive officer of WashingtonLive. "Timely and relevant information is critical to the role of public affairs professionals, and this product is a one of a kind solution to eliminate the time and expense of professionals consuming reams of useless information, only to be discarded dis·card

or missing critical news. By `pushing' articles and data to a user based on a history of preferences and themes, the search time spent `pulling' information is reduced significantly," Anthony added.

Underscoring its prospects for leadership in the industry is the recent acquisition by WashingtonLive of HillReview, a web service provider that offers leading edge technology solutions to subscribers in the government affairs industry.

"The acquisition of HillReview broadens Illumen's research functionality and adds significant value to our service," said Anthony. "Their capabilities and excellent track record in the legislative and regulatory research areas only enhance our distinctive service."

How It Works

Illumen employs state-of-the-art technology that is able to review, filter and deliver breaking news and information to subscribers using conceptual reasoning and `learned behavior' technology. Users will establish a personal profile allowing them to access a customized web page that features real-time news and information based on the legislative and regulatory issues they are following.

As the tool is used over time, it will search and filter digital feeds having learned user preferences based on specific subject selections. As a result, in addition to delivering relevant information based on the users categories, it will deliver more relevant information to the user's `personalized per·son·al·ize

The site also features a legislative calendar of events; profiles of elected officials; a legislative bill tracker; a time scheduling tool; and audio/video capabilities for tracking and sharing broadcast news and events.

"Knowing that the greater proportion of work for people in this industry is research, information gathering and preparation, we have engineered a top of the line mechanism to help lobbyists and business and legislative professionals perform their jobs better, in a more time-efficient manner using higher quality information," Anthony said.
