`RAGTIME,' `THE LION KING' LEAD IN TONY NOMINATIONS.

``Ragtime'' scored two leading actor-musical nominations, one for Peter Friedman and the other for Brian Stokes Mitchell who plays Coalhouse Walker. They face Alan Cumming, the lascivious las·civ·i·ous

Overlooked by the Tony nominating committee were such actors as Liam Neeson for his portrayal of Oscar Wilde in ``The Judas Kiss'' and both of Molina's co-stars in ``Art:'' Alan Alda and Victor Garber. Also snubbed by the committee were Melissa Errico, the star of ``High Society,'' and Rebecca Luker, who stars in the revival of ``The Sound of Music.'' ``High Society'' was also passed over for a best-musical nomination.

The award for regional theater will go to the Denver Center Theatre Company.

The nominations were announced by Rosie O'Donnell, Bernadette Peters and Peter Gallagher.

The Tonys, with O'Donnell as host, will be presented June 7 at Radio City Music Hall Radio City Music Hall
