Musician-Activist David Crosby announced today that on Tuesday, September 19 the non-partisan National Rally and Citizen Vote for Campaign Finance Reform Campaign finance reform is the common term for the political effort in the United States to change the involvement of money in politics, primarily in political campaigns.  will take place on the West Steps of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

The rally will call for -- and kick off -- a nationwide citizen vote on campaign finance reform, as well as mobilize public opinion on behalf of meaningful legislation on this pressing issue, including the complete elimination of "soft money."

Ballots will be handed out to all attendees at the Capitol event and then deposited in an onstage ballot box; additionally, concerned citizens everywhere may cast their own `vote' for campaign finance reform online at www.campaignforamerica.org or www.commoncause.org. Votes will be gathered and recorded from the 19th of September up until Election Day on November 7, 2000. Campaign Reform Project, the educational arm of Campaign for America, and Common Cause are among the organizations sponsoring this historic gathering, which is the brainchild of two-time Hall of Fame rock music legend David Crosby ... with a little help from his friends.

Former presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R/Arizona) and Senator Russell Feingold (D/Wisconsin), the two principle Senate sponsors of meaningful campaign finance reform legislation, have both committed to speak at the September 19th Rally. Also on board for the event is Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, the nation's leading independent politician. The occasion marks the first time the colorful Governor and the outspoken McCain will appear jointly in public.

With participants representing a diverse range of views from across the ideological spectrum, the National Rally and Citizen Vote for Campaign Finance Reform promises to be a truly non-partisan coming together of people from all walks of life united in a like-minded vision of a political system that is responsive to all Americans, regardless of their ability to make huge campaign contributions.

A number of major entertainers will also appear at the Rally, prominent among them Rock `n Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby (The Byrds, Crosby, Stills Nash & Young), who has long been a very vocal supporter of campaign finance reform. Mr. Crosby will participate as will band mates Graham Nash and Stephen Stills Stephen Arthur Stills (born January 3, 1945) is an American guitarist and singer/songwriter best known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young). . Other confirmed participants include former Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer and comedienne Paula Poundstone Paula Poundstone (born December 29, 1959 in Huntsville, Alabama) is an American stand-up comic. She is known for her quiet, self-deprecating style, political observations, and her trademark suit and tie outfit. .

A special appearance by Doris Haddock, more commonly known as "Granny D Granny D (born Ethel Doris Haddock, January 24, 1910) is an American politician and liberal political activist from the state of New Hampshire. Noted for her colorful character, warm personality, and advanced age, Haddock famously walked across the continental United States .," has also been confirmed. Ms. Haddock made international news earlier this year by completing a two-year walking journey across the country in support of campaign finance reform. Starting in Pasadena, California Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 133,936 and the 160th largest city in the United States.
