`NIGHTS' HAS CHEESY GOODNESS.Byline: TIM TIM Timothy TIM Technical Interchange Meeting TIM Transient Intermodulation Distortion TIM Time Is Money TIM The Invisible Man (movie) TIM Telecom Italia Mobile (Italian cellular provider) HADDOCK MOTOR SPORTS If there are three things to learn from ``Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,'' they are: Wonder bread, Fig Newtons and Halliburton are going to ruin NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla. . It's good to know who your friends are and whom your French gay lovers are. Nacho cheese fountains might be the greatest invention of all time. ``Talladega Nights'' is not so much a movie about stock-car racing stock-car racing Form of automobile racing. Popular in the U.S., it features cars that conform externally to standard U.S. commercial models and are raced usually on oval, paved tracks. as it is a commentary on the battle between image-conscious America and the traditional corniness it embraces. It also is a commentary on how the relationships between men develop, mutate mu·tate intr. & tr.v. mu·tat·ed, mu·tat·ing, mu·tates To undergo or cause to undergo mutation. Of course, this is all utter nonsense, but fun to gnaw on for a couple hours at the movie theater. That nacho cheese fountain made more people smile than a topless female Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan at a NASCAR race in Phoenix. ``Talladega Nights'' takes a stab at how corporate America has invaded stock-car racing, and it's not for the good of the sport. At one point, the comment is made in the movie that there needs to be more stupid cowboys in NASCAR. And there's probably some truth in that. Without Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick or Kurt Busch, thank goodness, NASCAR would be no fun to cover. But it's probably unfair to say the influx of corporate America will be the death of NASCAR. Sure, some drivers probably need to be more image conscious, but the paranoid suits who sign stock-car drivers as their corporate faces have to know what they're getting before they make such deals. Some NASCAR drivers have appeal because they are independent, careless mavericks, and that's why they win races. That same appeal doesn't always carry over into the marketing strategy of some major companies. It's a delicate balance that doesn't always produce the most desired result. But it's still fun to watch the drama unfold and see who is being assigned anger-management classes week to week. ``Talladega Nights'' also takes a stab at how men develop relationships. At its most ridiculous, the movie introduces a French NASCAR driver who comes over from Formula One, is openly gay and brings his dog-training husband into a bar fight to make his presence felt. There is plenty to learn from ``Talladega Nights,'' but probably the most important thing is never get so wrapped up in your emotions that you kiss a gay, French stock-car driver. There is absolutely no good reason to ever do that. The second-most important thing is never disown dis·own tr.v. dis·owned, dis·own·ing, dis·owns To refuse to acknowledge or accept as one's own; repudiate. disown Verb to deny any connection with (someone) Verb your best friends, mainly because you never know when they're going to come in handy Verb 1. come in handy - be useful for a certain purpose be - have the quality of being; (copula, used with an adjective or a predicate noun); "John is rich"; "This is not a good answer" in a pinch. Robert Yates Racing looks to fill holes In a move that perhaps signals the promotion of Stephen Leicht to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, Butch Hylton was named crew chief of the No. 88 Ford Fusion team by Robert Yates Racing on Monday. Hylton was Leicht's crew chief for the Cup race at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania two weeks ago. Dale Jarrett, driver of the No. 88 Ford, will race for Michael Waltrip Racing Michael Waltrip Racing Holdings LLC, doing business as Michael Waltrip Racing, competes as a racing team in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series. The team was one of the first three to spearhead Toyota's entry into Nextel Cup and Busch Series competition in 2007. Jarrett's teammate, Elliott Sadler, is actively seeking another team to drive for next year, which would leave two available seats at Robert Yates Racing. Leicht has been long rumored as a driver to take one of those seats. He drove for Robert Yates Racing at Pocono and could be reunited with Hylton on a full-time basis next year. Hylton, who has been with Robert Yates Racing since June, will take over crew chief duties on an interim basis, starting with Sunday's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard The Allstate 400 at The Brickyard, formerly known from 1994 to 2004 as the Brickyard 400, is an annual 400-mile (644 km) NASCAR Nextel Cup points race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indianapolis Motor Speedway, located in Speedway, Indiana (a separate town completely surrounded by Indianapolis) in the United States, is the second-oldest . Jeff Gordon has four wins at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as many as Indy car drivers Rick Mears, A.J. Foyt and Al Unser. As much as I love this race and am glad that I've won here, I still don't compare those wins to what those guys have done in the Indy 500.'' Gordon is also on the heels of DaleEarnhardt. One more win, and Gordon will match Earnhardt's 76 career Cup wins. The Brickyard 400 has been quite a barometer for predicting the Cup Series champion. The race winner has gone on to win the Cup championship five times in the 12-year history of the race.
