``I think it's going to be an experience that these kids are never going to forget, even when they're as old as I am,'' said Murray Wald, 81, one of six military musicians chosen by Glenn Miller to play in his band in 1943.

The orchestra will perform at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday during the 24th annual event, just two hours before the three-hour narrated air show featuring aerobatic displays, sky divers

Wald began rehearsing with the musicians, ages 13 to 16, just two months ago.

``The idea was to expose some youngsters of this age to some good music for a change,'' Wald said. ``Today's music is really discouraging. Most of it is played by musicians who only know two chords.''

Surprisingly, the vintage music wasn't a hard sell for teenagers born nearly 50 years after Miller died in a plane crash, parents said.

``There are kids who really like this kind of music,'' said Alan Ehrlich of West Hills, whose 16-year-old son, Sam, plays trumpet trumpet, brass wind musical instrument of part cylindrical, part conical bore, in the shape of a flattened loop and having three piston valves to regulate the pitch.  in the band. ``Kids usually pick music their parents hate, but he picked music we love.''
