According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  campus.

Initially, 10 relocatable classrooms on the college campus will house high school students. School officials are working to determine what types of classrooms would be best in later years.

Local education officials expect as many as 300 students, working concurrently for high school and college credits, to be enrolled in the program by the fall of next year.

The middle college concept appeals to students seeking an educational alternative to the traditional high school experience, educators say.

The concept has been around for several years in California. Students get a chance to complete their high school requirements during the day and take college classes on campus at night.

Phil Hartley, College of the Canyons vice president for instruction and student services, said the same-campus program is likely to be popular. More than 1,000 students who also attend area high schools already take classes at the college, where they are among 9,500 students.

It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  for educational services in the high school district, said students in the middle college program have the advantage of taking their classes at both levels on the same familiar campus.

A middle college program appeals to students who may not feel ties to a high school campus, Crunelle said.

The program, which received a $145,000 planning grant through the California Community Colleges chancellor, will allow the high school district and the college district to be partners in educating students living in the area, Hartley said.

The ongoing expenses of running the program will be part of the high school district's operating costs operating costs nplgastos mpl operacionales .

``If we can house 300 students on someone else's land, it will help us,'' she said.

Officials will begin to advertise the program early next year to give time for students to register for the fall semester se·mes·ter

Educators expect students in the program to become familiar with the college campus and more likely to consider continuing there, Crunelle said.

``Our hope is it will increase the number of transfer students from the community college to a four-year program,'' she said.
