`LAST DON II' RIDDLED WITH THE OBVIOUS.

There's nothing like a good mob movie to get people to turn on their television sets during sweeps. That isn't to be confused with ``The Last Don II,'' which is nothing like a good mob movie.

The latest Mafia miniseries on CBS is so over-the-top it may never come down, farce that plays better if you watch it as a comedy.

Last year CBS gave us ``The Last Don,'' which we now know was a misleading title. This year's model has far less Danny Aiello and almost no Joe Mantegna (his dead character comes back in dream sequences), who stood out in the second-to-last ``Don.''

After Don Clericuzio (Aiello) dies of natural causes, Cross De Lena (Jason Gedrick) is summoned to take over the powerful Clericuzio crime family. At first he refuses, but after his wife dies in a bombing, he takes the helm.

The stories are preposterous, including an undercover FBI agent acting as a nurse for Cross' autistic daughter, Rose Marie (Kirstie Alley) and an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like actor who marries into the family and stars in a movie called ``The Fumigator.''

Robert Wuhl has an excellent part as one-time Hollywood power broker, Billy Bantz, trying to get his juice back from the Clericuzio. Bad move, Billy Boy. Howver, he is a lot of fun while he lasts.

Everything is predictable. You see the conflict coming as soon as people enter the screen.

The dialogue is often ridiculous. As one stooge is about to get wasted, he actually says to a bigger stoodge ``Get off me, you Sicilian freak show.''
