`Juno' tunes give pregnant pause to all.

Byline: The Register-Guard

As many predicted, "Juno" has attracted a bunch of Oscar nominations. It's a strange achievement for a comedy, and likewise unusual for a film with such indie charm.

So Ellen Page and all her tininess has been nominated for the biggest award an individual actress can get - and she's barely 20.

The film also is nominated for best picture, best directing and for its screenplay, too. The soundtrack is nowhere on that list, but is everywhere on the Billboard charts, doing better in its first week than the 2007 "Dreamgirls" soundtrack.

The "Juno" soundtrack is far more humble. It features anti-folk artist Kimya Dawson or her band the Moldy Peaches on nine of its 19 songs.

Now, according to a New York Times article, the Olympia-based Dawson, 35, is worried about becoming too famous too fast.

For years she's been plugging away in relative obscurity, playing small shows and making independent records. But now, more than 1 million people have visited her MySpace page, and her fans by way of "Juno" are saying things such as this eloquent quote from a guy who titled himself "My Blade Your Heart":

"I just saw `Juno,' and I absolutely love the music and immediately went out and got the soundtrack and the songs that you, Antsy Pants, and the Moldy Peaches sang were absolutely amazing!" he wrote. "I don't normally listen to this calm of music, but for some reason your music makes me happy.?... You are amazing."

Now, some prefer to worship more obscure artists. For the likes of you, Sam Bond's on Thursday is hosting Steve Poltz, who many Dawson fans would love.

People seem to like Dawson's ability to be sincere and ironic at the same time. Well, Poltz has that talent, too. - a perfect fit for the "Juno" crowd.
