`Is He Dead?' announces March 9 closing

Mark Twain's "Is He Dead?" is folding after a three-month run.

The comedy will close March 9 at the Lyceum Theatre after 109 performances, producer Bob Boyett announced Tuesday.

Despite good reviews, the $2.7 million production was "a victim of the (stagehands) strike last November which took away our momentum right as we were opening," Boyett said. "I am grateful that the Broadway run has brought attention to the play, which I know will be seen in productions all over the world in the future."

"Is He Dead?" was adapted by David Ives and stars Norbert Leo Butz as a painter who fakes his own death to drive up the price of his paintings.
