`INSIDER' WALKS OFF WITH L.A. FILM CRITICS AWARDS.

``The Insider'' was named best film of the year by the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Film Critics Association, winning a total of four awards Saturday in a meeting filled with an unusually high number of close votes and unusually strong consensus in the acting categories.

In addition to best picture, Michael Mann's tale of tobacco and media compromise won awards for actor Russell Crowe, supporting actor supporting actor nattore m non protagonista  Christopher Plummer and cinematographer Dante Spinotti. Other awards: Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman won for their music in ``South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut''; production designer Rick Heinrichs was honored for his work on ``Sleepy Hollow'' and ``Being John Malkovich'' screenwriter Charlie Kaufman won for his mind-bending and original screenplay.

Director Alexander Payne and his writing partner Jim Stewart Jim Stewart might refer to:

Released in November, ``The Insider'' has been an expensive misfire for Disney, which is hoping that critical honors might convince moviegoers to give it a look. The film, which cost $68 million to make (before marketing expenses), has grossed just $24 million.
